A man is facing charges after he reportedly broke into a Dayton house in February and held a family, including a 12-year-old boy, against their will.

Bail was set at $200,000 for Darnell W. Bailey, 44, during his Wednesday arraignment in Dayton Municipal Court for three counts of kidnapping and one count each of felonious assault and aggravated burglary.

A man, woman and their son reported that two men knocked on the door of their Laurel Drive house around 11:30 p.m. Feb. 3. They claimed to be police, and one of the suspects broke a rear window to enter, according to an affidavit.

One suspect fired a gun at the man who lived in the house. He returned fire, but it did not appear that anyone was hit, the document stated.

The family reported they were held against their will in the living room and that the suspects demanded property.

“They said the suspects stole a firearm and fled the scene,” the affidavit read.

Dayton police evidence technicians recovered blood at the scene, which led investigators to Bailey, according to court documents.

During a police interview, Bailey reportedly admitted to knocking on the door, claiming to be police and breaking into the rear window of the house.

An attorney is not listed for Bailey, who is next due in court on April 14.
